Former President of the United States Barack Obama is close to striking a deal with Netflix to produce a series of shows, according to a new report.
Under the proposed agreement, Netflix would compensate Obama and his wife Michelle for exclusive content, reports The New York Times, adding that the exact number of episodes and the format for the various shows are still to be decided.
Obama is not looking to use the platform, which has a reach of more than 117 million global customers, to criticise – and respond to – President Trump, but rather comment on significant matters from his two terms in the White House.
It’s thought that former First Lady Michelle Obama will also have a show, addressing the various issues that arrived during her time in the White House and commenting on what it’s like to be married to the President of the United States.
“President and Mrs. Obama have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire,” Eric Schultz, an advisor to the former President, told The New York Times. “They continue to explore new ways to help others tell and share their stories.”

The proposed Netflix deal would provide Obama with another unfiltered method of communication with the public, notes American outlet CNN, extending his reach by 117 million – the number of subscribers Netflix had at the time of writing.
