An image has been posted on Twitter that seems to show what the Kinect 2, due to arrive with the Xbox 720, will be capable of.
This image was posted by Twitter user DaE, and appears to show a new version of Kinect running on a Durango devkit, which is the dev hardware for the upcoming Xbox 360 successor. It may look like two very basic green forms standing on a rainbow - a bit 16-bit - but it tells us a lot about what the next Kinect will be capable of.
Check out the recognition of each finger of the chap on the left, even though the hand is being held in front of his stomach. Edge fidelity is also remarkably good, picking out the contours of clothing. The rainbow underneath the players also has significance, denoting an advanced perception of depth of field. If this is the real deal, Kinect 2 will be capable of much greater feats than the current version.
Eurogamer writes that is can attest that DaE has a legit dev kit for the next generation of the Xbox console, but it won't go as far as to vouch for the legitimacy of the image. Perusing DaE's other tweets, we have some reason to doubt him too. At the time of writing, DaE's last insider utterance was, "am I not the sexiest millionaire?"
What do you think - a prank or the future of motion gaming?
