The Amazon Fire Phone has been heavily discounted, and is now available for purchase for just £99/$159.

Normally, the phone retails at £299 in the UK and $449 in the US, so there are some serious savings to be had.

The handset was previously discounted to £99 between 15 and 22 May, and also for a day in January.

The Fire Phone wasn't originally available at launch in the UK. However, it can now be purchased both on and off-contract – although it’s locked to O2, even on PAYG.

In the US, it’s compatible with all GSM networks, including AT&T, T-Mobile and a host of other providers.

However, it isn't compatible with Verizon, Sprint or US Cellular.

The Amazon Fire Phone has a 2.2GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 4.7in HD display.

It also features a 13-megapixel camera with optical image stabilisation, HDR, and an LED flash.

Amazon also included a selection of exclusive features on the Fire Phone, such as the shopper-friendly Firefly, and the Mayday tech-help panic button.

Unfortunately, the Amazon Fire Phone scored only 6/10 when we reviewed it.

While we praised its innovative software, it suffered from the huge Amazon lock-in, a lack of Google apps, and hefty pricing.

The US-focused apps are also an issue – for instance, there’s a very limited selection of UK banking apps.

Fortunately, it might be a better value proposition at the new price.
