Samsung shows off Gear S2 in fashion lookbook

Samsung has released fresh high-res images and a little more information on the Gear S2 smartwatch, but in a rather unusual fashion.

The electronics giant reserved some of the closing moments of yesterday’s Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ launch event to tease the Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch.

We won’t be seeing the Gear S2 properly until IFA 2015 in Berlin from September 4, but it didn’t take too long for Samsung to offer up more on the Gear S follow-up.

The company has released a fashion lookbook, which essentially resembles a fashion photoshoot featuring Samsung’s newly announced products, all worked into a mini magazine format and released online. It’s a little odd.

What it does drive home is that Samsung really is taking this whole premium design thing seriously now, if the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge weren’t enough of an indication of that.

More importantly, it also shows off more of the Samsung Gear S2.

We get two model shots of the S2 being worn, the second of which offers a larger, full-colour shot. It shows off the smartwatch’s round, metallic frame and what looks to be an Apple Watch Sport-like white plastic strap.

The blurb doesn’t reveal any specs, but it does talk about Samsung’s taking a “brave step forward by reimagining the classic circular watch.”

Apparently, the Korean company has done this by “infusing it with functional technology and a touch of creativity.”

The other photo is a black and white image of a model holding the Galaxy Note 5, but she’s also wearing a darker Gear S2. It’s less clear, but the image does show off two control buttons on the right hand side of the watch.

We already know that the Samsung Gear S2 will run Samsung’s own Tizen OS rather than Android Wear, and that it’s expected to feature a 360 x 360 display.

Other claimed specs include an Exynos 3472 dual-core processor with 768MB of memory, 4GB of storage, and a 250mAh battery.
