Camcorder Of The Year 2011

Our shortlist for the Best Camcorder of 2011 included a wide variety of camcorders from high end, broadcast quality devices to smaller, tough models designed to take a beating and record HD video for sharing with your friends.

We asked you to vote for your favourite, and having tallied your votes we whittled down the shortlist to three finalists: the Panasonic HDC-TM900, the JVC Everio GZ-HM445 and the Panasonic HDC-SD90. The chosen finalists showed just how the camcorder manufacturers are offering models to suit all pockets and needs.

Our panel of experts then got together to discuss and debate the merits of each camcorder getting a chance to put each through its paces and look at sample video from each, before casting their votes.

While the voting was very close, having looked at the judges' comments, it is clear that the winner could produce high quality video and offer a range of features that the other models just couldn't match, and although it came at a premium, the panel felt it offered good value for the overall package.

On the strength of your review, I just bought the Panasonic HDC-SD90. After trying it out I can say that at any price it's an admirable camcorder, but at its price it's amazing.

I bought one of these Everio cameras and where the camera itself is good. The downloading program for it stinks and has been nothing but confusing and problematic. So much so that I'm getting rid of it and looking into some thing more user friendly.
