Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is our 2017 Game of the Year – here’s why
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been awarded Game of the Year at the Trusted Reviews awards show in east London.
Nintendo’s modern classic pipped its rivals, Horizon Zero Dawn and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, thanks to its unrivalled exploration and incredible sense of adventure. It’s been an amazing year for Nintendo and its new console, the Nintendo Switch, and Breath of the Wild stands as the pinnacle of what has come to the new hardware in 2017.

Launching the same day as the Nintendo Switch on March 3, the game also arrived on Nintendo’s previous console, the Wii U. In our review of Breath of the Wild the game was described as “the greatest game of all time”, with it earning full marks with five stars, so it’s hardly a surprise that the game won out in our end of year show.
And now, with the first batch of DLC available and more to come, there’s even more of Breath of the Wild to explore and enjoy.

Before you start screaming at your screen about which games should have won the award, keep in mind that there was a cut-off point for games to release in order to be under consideration. So big hitters like Super Mario Odyssey, Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Call of Duty: WW2 unfortunately just missed out.
