The new ‘Sandstone White’ OnePlus 5T is the best OnePlus phone yet

We’ve only just welcomed in 2018, but OnePlus has already announced its first new product of the year – an updated version of the fantastic OnePlus 5T.

Joining the current ‘Midnight Black’ option, the new ‘Sandstone White’ hue is basically that limited edition Star Wars version of the device we saw released alongside The Last Jedi, but without the sci-fi nods.

Unlike previous white OnePlus phones, the 5T retains the black front and keeps the white to just the back and sides. This is a good move, as the contrast between the black and white looks really nice. There’s also a splash of colour in the form of a red alert- slider.

The biggest difference though between the two versions of the OnePlus 5T is the texture of the back. The black version has a smooth rear, but the white variant brings back that classic rough ‘Sandstone’ feel OnePlus utilised on its earlier phones.

The texture here is not quite as course as it was on the OnePlus One and 2, but it does add some extra grip to a device that’s quite slippery.

OnePlus claims that the Sandstone White 5T is the ‘most expensive phone it has ever produced’ and that each unit goes through a multi-stage process to give it that distinctive look and feel. After using it for a few days, it does feel like the nicest phone OnePlus has ever made and we’d be happy to see it return for the OnePlus 6.

Everything else about the OnePlus 5T Sandstone White remains the same: There’s a lovely 6-inch 18:9 OLED display, speedy Snapdragon 835 and super-fast Dash Charging. OnePlus has also started rolling out Android 8.0 Oreo to the phone, so you won’t be stuck on Nougat for long.

In our OnePlus 5T review we said: “The OnePlus 5T is a fantastic phone for the price. It’s display is gorgeous, software slick and camera reliable. It’s also supremely fast and the performance can easily be compared to phones that cost hundreds of pounds more. If you’re looking for a great Android phone but can’t quite stomach the prices being asked for the Google Pixel 2Samsung Galaxy Note 8 or Huawei Mate 10 Pro, then you really won’t be disappointed with the OnePlus 5T.”

You’ll only be able to grab this colour in the 8GB RAM/128GB storage model and as it’s a limited edition, you might have to be quick if you want to grab one. In the UK it’ll cost you £499, $559 in the States and €549 across Europe.
