LG G3 crowned 2014 TrustedReviews Phone of the Year

LG G3

The LG G3 has been crowned Phone of the Year at the 2014 TrustedReviews Awards, seeing off competition from the likes of the iPhone 6 and the HTC One M8.

A device which has kicked the hotly contested smartphone space into yet another gear, the LG G3 pairs a hugely impressive specs sheet with an innovative, near bezel free design.

Having received praise from both the voting public and our panel of expert judges, the G3 shook the market back in June by adding a 5.5-inch QHD display into a frame no larger than some 5-inch handsets.

While a laser focused 13-megapixel camera and rear-mounted controls also feature, this push to a 2560 x 1440 pixel panel has since sparked a number of rivals to follow suit – including Samsung with the Galaxy Note 4.

“We’ve been spoilt for choice this year with loads of brilliant phones,” said Evan Kypreos, Editor of TrustedReviews. “It was very tight between the iPhone 6, HTC One M8 and the eventual winner, the LG G3.

“The LG won out in the end because of its lack of weakness in any area.

Looking to where the G3 tipped the balance, he added: “The sleek design with the buttons at the rear is ingenious, the camera great and the screen something special. When all of these things come without sacrificing the battery life, it is clear the LG G3 just has the edge on the competition.”

Having drifted into smartphone obscurity in recent years, LG is now once again a serious player in the handset space.

Eased back into the market through its partnership with Google – LG manufactured both the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 – the Korean manufacturer returned to form in 2013 with the LG G2. Now, the LG G3 has taken things to another level and left us excited to see what 2015 and the mooted LG G4 might have in store.

In taking the coveted crown, the LG G3 saw off competition from arguably the industry’s biggest player – Apple – and last year’s best phone winner – HTC.

I would of voted for BlackBerry Passport myself. As it is the most innovative design by a mile this year, not one of the usual same old makers can lay claim to that and it is highly spec'd and has excellent battery life etc etc...

No Note 4? it has the best screen, a stylus, sound quality and its built rather well too.

No it isn't. Battery life is ordinary on the G3.. and the Note 4 is better - for the reasons Edstar says below and also due to its adoption of Gear VR

Whilst not perfect, it's probably the most 'balanced' in terms of features, spec and price.

It's not as expensive as the note 4 or iPhones, whilst still having a removeable battery and a memory slot which a lot of the competition have started omitting (goodness knows why).

Nice one LG. Please bring the 32gb model to the UK ....

UPDATED 17th Dec:

The 16gb is now available for £299 sim free. I put my money where my mouth is and bought one 2 weeks ago. No regrets. Battery easily lasts all day. Android L. Love the wireless charging .....

The AMOLED screen definitely pops more, but I don't see much, if any, difference in sound quality. The stylus is an extra-- not essential--and I'm not sure how much extra. The editors here seemed to place a premium on the smaller form factor the G3, and I can't say I disagree there. The feel of the G3 and Note 4 is COMPLETELY different; the Note 4 feels humongous compared to the G3 for only a slight bump in screen size. Just my 2 cents.

I get 8 hours screen on time on mine best battery I've had on a phone. It charges ridiculously fast as well.

Um Moto X or Note 4 or Nexus 6? Trusted Reviews only takes into account phones released September or earlier?

I don't know why G3 is the best phone. It is fire on the hand.
