Livescribe 3 smartpen launches in the UK

Livescribe Inc. is updating its range of smartpens with the Livescribe 3.

The new pen captures everything written on Livescribe paper and transfers it instantly to the free Livescribe mobile app using wireless Bluetooth technology.

Using an iPod touch, iPhone or iPad users can converts handwriting to digital text which can be added to contacts lists and events calendars. Handwritten diagrams can also be added to photographs and turned into PDFs which can be shared via messages, emails, Dropbox or Evernote.

The pen even connects with the built-in microphone on a tablet or smartphone, synchronizing notes and audio.

Livescribe 3 features

Whereas the Sky pen uses wifi to connect to mobile devices and the Livescribe Echo
uses a USB cable, the Livescribe 3 connects using Bluetooth Smart
wireless technology for instant copy transfer.

Coming in black and chrome, the Livescribe is designed as a premium writing tool. It uses Swiss-made premium ballpoint cartridges and comes with a capacitive stylus cap to control the Livescribe app.

Compatible with iOS devices including the iPhone 5S, iPad Air, iPad Mini 2 and 5th generation iPod touch, it has 14 hours of battery life

Livescribe 3 price and availability

There are two Livescribe 3 packages.

The standard Livescribe 3 smartpen costs £119.99 and includes pen, 50-sheet Starter Notebook, micro USB charging cable and black tungsten carbide ink cartridge.

The Pro Edition is £169.99 features a leather portfolio, 100-sheet hardbound journal, one-year subscription to Evernote Premium, charging cable and addition ink cartridge.

The Livescribe app is available from the App Store for devices running iOS 7 or newer.
