Apple iWatch to launch in two sizes as his and hers models are rumoured

Apple is reportedly working on two Apple Watch launches, with the much mooted timepiece tipped to land in both his and hers sizes.

While Apple has yet to officially acknowledge plans to launch its own smartwatch, the Apple iWatch has been the thing of much rumour and speculation for a number of months. Now, industry analysts have claimed the Cupertino-based company is working on both a 1.3-inch and 1.7-inch device to better fit both female and male users.

Echoing the design principles of the standard watch market, where men’s wrist wear is usually larger and bulkier than women’s options, speaking with the Korean Herald China-based DisplaySearch senior analyst David Hsieh has stated: “Apple’s wearable iWatch is expected to come with a 1.7-inch OLED display for men’s watches and a 1.3-inch OLED screen for women.”

Putting these rumoured dimensions into perspective, the existing Samsung Galaxy Gear boasts a 1.63-inch touchscreen display while the Sony Smartwatch 2 hosts a square, 1.6-inch screen.

Although a variety of Apple iWatch sizes would make sense giving user’s varying wrist sizes and differing demands, Hsieh’s predictions clash with reports last month that the Apple iWatch would be made available in three, smaller form factors.

According to recent iWatch rumours, Apple’s first wearable gadget will land with 1.3-inch, 1.4-inch and 1.5-inch display options available.

Expected to be an iPhone 5S and iPad mini 2 companion, the Apple iWatch will reportedly offer call, text and messaging notifications direct to your wrist, as well as acting as something of a portal to many of your phone’s or tablet’s other functions.
