iPad Pro release date tipped; Apple “cautious” with tablet orders

Apple has long been rumoured to be working on a 12.9in tablet, and we might now have a definitive iPad Pro release date.

A report claims Apple is gearing towards a mid-November launch for the iPad Pro, which will be just in time for the Christmas splurge season.

The company’s supply chains are expected to begin delivering components for the 12.9in slate in late-September, as suggested in a Digitimes article.

However, the report notes that Apple is being careful about the number of iPad Pro units for which it’s placing orders.

Apple is rather cautious about placing related orders and the initial shipment volume is much lower than most market watchers’ expectations,” explains the article.

It’s also tipped that the iPad Pro will be manufactured by Foxconn Electronics, one of Apple’s major suppliers and the main manufacturer of the iPhone 6.

It’s interesting to note that Apple may be holding back on orders for its much-mooted slate. This may be a result of the lack of interest in tablets in recent years.

Most tablet manufacturers are expecting to face difficulties meeting shipment goals this year, making Apple’s new entry to the market a risky move.

Apple has been rumoured to have an iPad Pro in the works since 2013, although we’ve yet to see such a device materialise.

What would the iPad Pro actually look like? Previous reports point to a 2,048 x 2732 pixel, 12.9in screen offering an Apple Watch-style Force Touch display, a USB-C connector and a stylus peripheral.

The iPad Pro would be up against similar power slates such as Microsoft’s Surface Pro 3, targeting productivity rather than the more leisurely iPad Air 2.
