Xbox 720 features to see ‘Siri-like speech recognition’

New Xbox 720 features have emerged, with Microsoft’s next-generation console rumoured to support ‘Siri-like speech recognition’.

The latest in a recent raft of Xbox 720 rumours, the newly leaked Xbox 720 features have suggested Microsoft’s PS4 and Nintendo Wii U rival will play host to “greatly improved” speech recognition capabilities, with the next-gen console to be “similar to Apple’s Siri service” in understanding context to users’ voice commands.

Citing unnamed “sources familiar with Microsoft’s Xbox plans,” the Verge has revealed the upcoming Xbox 720 features ahead of the heavily rumoured pre-Christmas Xbox 720 release date that will see the longstanding Xbox 360 finally replaced.

“Microsoft will greatly improve its speech recognition technology inside the next Xbox,” the latest reports have suggested. “The next Xbox will support wale on voice, natural language controls, and speech-to-text.”

The insider sources reportedly added: “The improved capabilities mean that Xbox users will be able to walk into a room and simple say “Xbox on” to wake up the new Xbox.

“The support will include natural language detection, similar to Apple’s Siri service, that will let users ask things like “what are my friends playing” to receive a friends list. Xbox will also reply back to users with answers to queries, making it an improved search service too.”

With speech-to-text functionality reportedly set to allow gamers to dictate messages to be sent Xbox Live friends without being distracted from in-game action, the speech elements of the Xbox 720 feature lists are also widely expected to be bolstered by Skype integration.

Xbox 720 Rumours
Whilst an Xbox 720 release date is widely expected to be confirmed at E3 2013 in June ahead of a pre-Christmas launch, a number of recent Xbox 720 rumours have already offered an insight into the next-gen gamer, including the possibility of Microsoft blocking a second-hand games market.

The latest in a long line of Xbox 720 rumours, reports yesterday suggested that Xbox 720 games would be locked to individual consoles, removing any resale value and potentially spelling the end for trade-ins and pre-owned markets. With Xbox 720 games also seemingly set to require and always on internet connection, the next-gen gamer has been tipped to land alongside a refreshed Xbox Live service.

Offering further insight into the potential Xbox 720 features list, recent rumours have suggested the PS4 rival will boast an eight-core processor, 8GB of RAM and yet still line up less powerful than its Sony branded rival. Xbox 720 games are reportedly set to come on new 50GB Blu-ray discs as the Microsoft marked console adds an integrated Blu-ray player.
