Sony PS4 release date teased for February 20 event unveiling
Sony has announced a special event for February 20, which will almost certainly prove to be the launch of the Sony PS4 console.
Sony recently tweeted a teaser for its next generation console, setting the February 20 special event date and inviting users to “see the future” of the PlayStation console brand.
An attached teaser video even appears to offer a glimpse at the new hardware – see the captured still above.
If there was any doubt that February 20 will see the PS4 launch, The Wall Street Journal has weighed in with its own confirmation. Speaking of Sony’s February 20 event, the reputable news outlet said, “People familiar with the matter have said the new device will make its debut there.”
As the report points out, this means that Sony will beat Microsoft to the punch with regard to its own next generation console launch plans. It’s believed that Microsoft will wait until the E3 show in June before showing its hand.
In fact, recent rumours suggest that Sony’s bragging rights over Microsoft won’t end at the launch date. It’s widely believed that the PlayStation 4 will have a clear power advantage over the so-called Xbox 720.
Whilst the two next-gen consoles will likely share a similar architecture, based on an 8-core AMD CPU, it’s said that the PS4’s GPU will be considerably more capable.
