Perhaps the most heavily leaked feature of the rumoured Apple iPhone 6S is Force Touch.
That’s why we’re feeling a little blasé about this latest leak – yep, you guessed it, Force Touch on the next iPhone.
This time the information comes from a highly reputable source, specifically Apple itself.
Developer Hamza Sood, renowned for tracking down features hidden in code, has unearthed a reference to Force Touch in a recent iOS 9 build.
The code specifically cites ‘DeepPress’ gestures for selecting UI text. That gels with the pressure sensitive capabilities of a Force Touch display.
“Some force touch code in iOS. Looks like they’ve tested kb trackpad gestures on the 6S, activated via force touch,” explains Sood in a tweet.
Back in July, we heard that Apple’s suppliers were ramping up shipments of Force Touch displays.
It was reported that the initial shipment was expected to reach 36 to 40 million for Q3, growing to 50 million in Q4.
Force Touch first appeared on the Apple Watch, shortly followed by the 12-inch MacBook.
The feature allows for different gestures depending on how hard users press down on the surface. In the iPhone 6S’s case, that would be the screen.

The iPhone 6S is expected to be formally unveiled on September 9, alongside the iPhone 6S Plus.
However, Apple has yet to confirm any such event – invites are tipped to land in the coming days.
