The Xbox SmartGlass app is now available on the Amazon Kindle Fire and Amazon Kindle Fire HD tablets, letting users navigate their Xbox 360 remotely.
Xbox gamers can now interact with their Xbox 360 via their Amazon Kindle Fire and Amazon Kindle Fire HD, including using the tablet’s keyboard to type on the Xbox 360.
The app offers access to a user’s Xbox Live achievements, messaging and Xbox music, as well as allowing users to play, pause, fast forward, rewind and stop videos and music on the Xbox 360.
Amazon Kindle Fire and Amazon Kindle Fire HD users can navigate the Xbox dashboard, browsing through the music, videos and games available, enjoy “rich, interactive experience from select game and entertainment content creators” and personalise their Xbox Live avatar.
Xbox SmartGlass originally launched in November 2012 and is currently available on iOS, Windows 8, Windows Phone and devices running Android 4.0 or higher.
Microsoft updated the Xbox SmartGlass app very recently, introducing compatibility with 7-inch and larger Android tablets.
Xbox 720 Rumours
Dual-screen interactivity via the Xbox SmartGlass app is tipped to become a more important feature for the as yet unannounced Xbox 720 console.
Despite a lack of official confirmation, several rumours have suggest an Xbox 720 launch will occur on May 21, with an Xbox 720 release date sometime in November, potentially around the same time as the PS4.
Strongly rumoured to pack the same eight-core x86-64 AMD Jaguar CPU as the PS4, the Xbox 720 specs sheet could include two CPUs for separate multimedia and game processing capabilities.
Microsoft’s next-gen console may even play host to a fixed hard drive, moving away from the traditional modular hard drive of the Xbox 360, and feature the Xbox TV streaming service, 3D technology and the new Kinect 2 motion sensor gaming accessory. The latter is tipped to play a huge role in the Xbox 720’s user interface, similar to the motion sensor inbuilt into the new PlayStation DualShock 4 controller.
