New reports suggest Sony might be setting up to reappraise its smartphone sales forecast.
According to the WSJ, Sony will hack its prediction for flogged units back to the tune of several million handsets.
It’s a grim outlook for Sony, with the firm having already written down its forecast just last month.
The firm blamed poor sales of mid-to-low end devices, promising to shift focus onto premium handsets in the future.
Unfortunately, despite Sony’s push on its high-end Xperia Z3, it’s clearly still feeling the hurt with plans to revise forecasts yet again.
The firm is expected to axe its push for emerging markets, in particular China where Sony has struggled to sell entry-level devices.
It’s not the first product category to give Sony some trouble, with the Japanese electronics manufacturer having already struggled with its TV line-up and the late Vaio laptop range.
This means Xperia is here to stay – at least for now – although Sony is rumoured to be scaling back its release cycle for the top-end handset from 6 months to yearly.
Word on the grapevine is that Sony’s already well under way with Xperia Z4 development, with the full spec sheet already leaked online.
Sony will be meeting with its investors next month to unveil its mobile device roadmap – significantly dieted down than previous years, we’re sure.
