A new iPhone could launch at WWDC afterall

A cheaper iPhone 5S handset with just 8GB or internal storage could be unveiling during Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference next week, a leading analyst has predicted.

With WWDC 2014 set to kick off next Monday, June 2, and run through until Friday June 6, much speculation surrounds what the Cupertino-based tech giant will have to show off during its annual developer conference.

Now, according to KGI analyst and serial Apple tipster Ming-Chi Kuo, an 8GB iPhone 5S model will enter the realms of reality, joining the 8GB iPhone 5C introduced earlier this year.

At present the iPhone 5S is available in Apple’s traditional trio of storage options, with 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models on offer.

With the 16GB iPhone 5S currently priced at £549, an 8GB option could see the flagship Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8 rival edge considerably closer to the all-important £500 marker.

The 8GB iPhone 5C costs £429, £40 cheaper than its 16GB storage counterpart.

Apple is expected to unveil a range of new devices and services during WWDC, with iOS 8 widely tipped to be one of the key announcements ahead of an iPhone 6 launch later this year. A refreshed OS X system is also likely to be given its formal unveiling next week.

Aside from its reduced storage capacity, the mooted 8GB iPhone 5S is not expected to differ in any way to its more sizeable siblings.

The handset features a sleek, brushed metal, 7.6mm thick design with a 4-inch Retina display and 8-megapixel rear-mounted camera taking pride of place.

Offering improved security over past handsets, the iPhone 5S introduced Apple’s new TouchID fingerprint sensor incorporating home button.
