Xbox One launch line-up is ‘the best in console history’ says Microsoft bigwig

Early Xbox One adopters will have access to the greatest array of ‘day one titles’ available in the history of games consoles, a senior Microsoft official has claimed.

Phil Harrison, a Corporate VP at Microsoft, said the 23 games that will be on sale the day the Xbox One console hits the shelves has never been bettered by other makers or Microsoft itself.

Among the 23 games on offer will be long-awaited first-party titles like Ryse: Son of Rome, Forza Motorsport 5 and Killer Instinct with Microsoft guaranteeing their arrival on whatever date it decides to launch the console in November.

Significantly, exciting third-party titles like Battlefield 4, Watch Dogs, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Need for Speed: Rivals, NBA 2K14, Madden 25, Dead Rising 3 and Assassins Creed IV will also be available immediately.

Beyond that, every Xbox One pre-order customer will get a free copy of FIFA 14 bundled in with the console. Can’t say fairer than that!

Harrison told CVG at Gamescom in Germany: “Ultimately it’s the games that make Xbox One stand out, and we have the best line-up of games – we think – in the history of consoles.

“We clearly have strong exclusive games, and we have partnered with EA to bring FIFA to Europe in a very meaningful way. Football in Europe is the sport, and in some countries it’s the religion. I think FIFA Ultimate Team is going to be huge.”

Microsoft’s line-up certainly is better stocked than Sony’s PS4 immediate offering, with the Japanese giant serving up 15 games on day one, with 18 more coming by the end of 2013.

Microsoft’s heavy investment will avoid a repeat of Nintendo’s recent errors, which saw the company launch the Nintendo 3DS and the Nintendo Wii U with a thread-bare array of top notch games, something the company is still dealing with as we approach the Wii U’s first year on sale.

Has Microsoft’s larger launch line-up convinced you to opt for the Xbox One rather than the PS4? Is Harrison right when he calls this the ‘greatest’ launch line up ever? Let us know in the comments section below.
