The World Ends With You is an action role-playing game developed by Square Enix, which launched in 2008 on the Nintendo DS. The game utilised many of the DS’s unique features, with gameplay taking place across both screens, and attacks requiring touch controls and even use of the microphone. These will, of course, need adapting for the Nintendo Switch.

There isn’t a firm release date for the game as yet, with only the vague “2018” window confirmed thus far. Hopefully we’ll get a narrower time frame soon.

Set in the modern-day Shibuya shopping district of Tokyo, the game follows lead hero Neku Sakuraba and friends as they’re forced to take part in a twisted game in order to stay alive. Neku will be erased from existence if he fails to complete the tasks set before him.

The story is far more complex than this brief synopsis, but we’ll let you discover the twists and turns it can take once the game launches.

Square is introducing an all-new epilogue chapter that sheds light on the game’s plot. New control methods have also been introduced, with players able to interact with the game using either the Joy-Con or Nintendo Switch touchscreen.
