Sony Xperia ZL unveiled at CES 2013

Having leaking ahead of launch in recent days, the new Sony Xperia ZL has been officially unveiled with the new Android powerhouse entering the realms of reality at CES 2013.

Launching alongside the similarly specced Sony Xperia Z, the new Sony Xperia ZL is a new force on the Android smartphone front, with the 5-inch Android Jelly Bean device playing host to a high-end collection of innards that are set to rival the current key players on the smartphone scene.

“We have many exciting new products at CES this year, combining a magical mix of science and wonder, design and function, usefulness and elegance and technology and entertainment content to create an emotional experience that only Sony can provide.” said Kazuo Hirai, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sony Corporation.

Sony Xperia ZL Specs
Like its more luxuriously designed sibling, the Sony Xperia ZL plays host to a high-end collection of innards with the device’s 5-inch Bravia 2 Engine display lining up as being of the 1080P HD variety and with a quad-core processor under the hood, the Sony Xperia ZL is a beefy device tasked with competing with the likes of the Huawei Ascend D2 and the Google Nexus 4.

Although losing the sleek “OmniBalance” finish and waterproof coating of the Sony Xperia Z, elsewhere, the Sony Xperia ZL is a largely similar affair with a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor keeping the device running alongside a not inconsiderable 2GB of RAM and an expansive 2400mAh battery.

With NFC and 4G connectivity options thrown into the mix, the cutting edge innards of the Sony Xperia Z are further enhanced by the handset’s imaging abilities with the handset’s 13-megapixel rear-mounted camera playing host to 1080p Full HD, HDR video recording capabilities.

Sony Xperia ZL Release Date and Price
With just a US launch currently on the cards, a Sony Xperia ZL UK release date has yet to be confirmed with the Sony Xperia Z sibling seemingly set to remain a US exclusive for the foreseeable future. Given its unconfirmed launch plans, unsurprisingly a Sony Xperia ZL price tag is still up in the air.
