Sony Xperia Z confirmed at CES 2013

The Sony Xperia Z is finally a thing of reality, officially unveiled during Sony’s CES 2013 press conference following weeks of repeated leaks and rumours.

Lining up largely as expected, the Sony Xperia Z features a high-end collection of innards set to mark it out as a true Samsung Galaxy S3 and iPhone 5 challenger, as the Japanese manufacturer gets a jump on a number of its competitors and the expected raft of upcoming MWC 2013 unveilings.

With Xperia Z, we are bringing over half a century of innovation in TV, imaging, music, film and gaming to create a superphone experience that truly stands out,” said Kuni Suzuki, President and CEO, at Sony Mobile Communications. “With great specifications, Sony’s media applications, One-touch functions and outstanding battery life, Xperia Z is well positioned for leadership in the smartphone market.

“By putting smartphones at the heart of our strategy, Sony is enabling people to create, enjoy and share content and experiences like never before.”

Sony Xperia Z Specs
A true powerhouse of the smartphone scene, the Sony Xperia Z plays host to a tantalising selection of high-end components with the handset continuing the current trend of introducing HD displays to the flagship line, supporting an expansive 5-inch offering with a 1080p Full HD resolution.

With the smartphone market entering a new phase of rapid development, the Sony Xperia Z is the latest in a current small collection of handset to boast an integrated 13-megapixel rear-mounted camera with the device also sporting a second snapper around front for video calls.

Set to launch at a mere 7.6mm thick, and with a compact, premium construction form factor, the sleekly designed Sony Xperia Z is IP55 and IP57 certified ensuring the handset can stand up to everyday knocks, drops, bumps and bangs. With a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor running the show, similar to that found in the Google Nexus 4, the Sony Xperia Z specs sheet is further bolstered by 2GB of RAM and 4G connectivity options.

Sony Xperia Z Release Date and Price
Although a concrete Sony Xperia Z UK release date has yet to be confirmed, during the handset’s CES 2013 formal unveiling, Sony revealed that its latest flagship handset would begin a global rollout starting in Q1 of this year.

At present, official Sony Xperia Z price details have yet to be confirmed, with the device’s high-end innards sure to see it enter with an equally high-end price tag.
