Huawei Ascend D2 unveiled as 5-inch Android powerhouse

Huawei, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer, has officially launched the Huawei Ascend D2, a 5-inch quad-core Android powerhouse that sees the company take a step away from its usual budget offerings.

A new high-end handset to rival the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Google Nexus 4, the Huawei Ascend D2 plays host to a high-end collection of innards with the CES 2013 unveiled device lining up alongside fellow new release, the 6.1-inch Huawei Ascend Mate.

“The Huawei Ascend D2 has the style, power and all-round performance capabilities you would expect from a HuaweiI Ascend smartphone, but with a revolutionary FHD screen, unsurpassed camera quality and power saving technology to maximize your enjoyment,” Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group said. “We are excited to introduce the Huawei Ascend D2, the latest addition to our series of Ascend range of smartphones, as we continue to put great technology into the hands of more people around the world.”

Huawei Ascend D2 Specs

The latest flagship handset from the former budget smartphone specialist, the Huawei Ascend D2 marks the company’s intent to break into the high-end handset sector, with the Android 4.1-Jelly Bean device playing host to a wide range of premium features that is led off by the device’s 5-inch FHD IPS Super Retina display that boasts a stunning 1920 x 1080p Full HD resolution and eye-popping 443 pixels-per-inch image density.

With the handset’s stunning display protected by a Corning Gorilla glass coating, the Huawei Ascend D2’s specs sheet continues to roll-out a collection of market leading innards, with a zippy 1.5GHz quad-core processor featuring alongside a 13-megapixel rear-mounted camera and the now standard 1080p Full HD video recording capabilities.

Far from the lightest handset on the market at a reasonable 170g in weight, the Huawei Ascend D2’s aluminium and metal framed design lines up at just 9.9mm thick and plays host to a considerable 3000mAh battery that can satisfy the handset’s power loving components.

Huawei Ascend D2 Release Date and Price
Although the Chinese firm has taken to CES 2013 to formally unveil the Huawei Ascend D2 powerhouse, the company has yet to confirm Huawei Ascend D2 UK release date plans with the device currently tipped to “be on sale in China in January 2013 and Japan in the future. Huawei Ascend D2 pricing is also still unclear.
