While many smartphone manufacturers are jumping on the 2K display bandwagon, it doesn’t look like Sony will be amongst them any time soon.
Speaking to Focus Taiwan, Sony Mobile’s GM Jonathan Lin revealed the company isn’t planning on making the switch to 2K screens.
According to Lin, the company has held ‘a lot of internal discussions’ about a 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution display on handsets, but decided against it.
The GM explained that moving from a Full HD 1920 x 1080 display to 2K would require ‘significant improvements in display quality and digital image processing technology’.

He went on to confirm that Sony Mobile will only use 2K screens on its tablets, for instance the new Xperia Z4 Tablet.
Rival handset makers have already joined the fray however, including Samsung with the Galaxy S6 and LG with the LG G4.

This isn’t the first time Sony has revealed its scepticism towards 2K displays.
Back in September, the company told TrustedReviews that there are three major points of contention when it comes to the high-resolution panels.
