Shenmue 1 and 2 remaster release date confirmed for August 2018

SEGA has confirmed that Shenmue 1 and 2 Remastered will be coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC this summer.

The upcoming package will be launching for the aforementioned platforms on August 21, 2018, with a retail price of £24.99. Not too bad for two iconic classics.

In terms of new features, SEGA has introduced motion controls for relevant platforms alongside Japanese language options and a scaleable resolution.

That last option essentially means you’ll be able to enjoy the game in modern resolutions such as 1080p and 4K or scale back to an old-school aspect ratio for maximum nostalgia.

Originally released for the SEGA Dreamcast in 1999, Shenmue has since become a cult classic with its fair share of dedicated fans. So much so that a third game was kickstarted in 2015, although is yet to be released.

A duo of remasters is the perfect way to both attract newcomers and bring fans back into the fold ahead of Shenmue 3, which is due to launch in 2019 if all goes to plan.

August 2018 will also see the release of Yakuza Kiwami 2, a series which is often considered the spiritual successor to Shenmue. It’ll be interesting to see how the two of them compare after so many years.
