Chipset manufacturer Qualcomm has given us a glimpse as to what the next generation of flagship smartphones will have to offer.
Having previously announced its Snapdragon 810 processing unit ahead a 2015 release, the component giant has now stuck the upcoming CPU within a development device designed to showcase the chipset’s potential.
As well as running the upcoming 64-bit Snapdragon 810 CPU, the development handset – dubbed the Qualcomm Mobile Development Platform Smartphone – has teased further specs likely to grace the next wave of high-end smartphones.
A product not intended for a consumer release, the MDP smartphone features a massive 6.17-inch display with a stunning 250 x 1600 pixel QHD resolution.
This high-end panel is paired with a whopping 4GB of LP-DDR4 RAM and a 3020mAh battery with QuickCharge 2.0 technology in tow.
Not content with supporting this bevy of premium innards, the device adds a 13-megapixel, OIS and dual flash enhanced primary camera alongside a secondary, 4-megapixel snapper around front.
This lead camera is capable of capturing 1080p Full HD video at an impressive 120fps, or 4K content at 30fps. Further enhancing the phone’s 4K credentials, the device adds a micro HDMI slot which supports 4K output.
The now customary fingerprint reader and sensor package – including a 3-axis gyroscope, accelerometer, ambient light sensor, temperature and humidity sensors – also feature alongside Bluetooth 4.1 and USB 3.0 connectivity options.
Although no consumer devices have yet to be confirmed running the Snapdragon 810 chipset, the rumour mill has already started churning and the first handsets are expected around MWC 2015 in early March.
According to recent leaks, both the Sony Xperia Z4 and the LG G4 are expected to pair a Snapdragon 810 chipset alongside 4GB of RAM and improved camera optics.
