iPhone 6 release date tipped for October
The iPhone 6 release date might happen on October 14, quite a while after the official launch.
According to a new leak, Apple might set the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 release date as October 14, despite reports the launch date might happen in mid-September.
Currently reports point to a September 16 launch for the iPhone 5S successor, originally with a release date pegged for September 19, or at least before the end of September.
However, the latest report from a MacRumours source citing an internal Apple Retail Store meeting suggests that October 14 may be the release date for the iPhone 6.
The source stated one senior Apple Store leader called October 14 an “immense” day for Apple, adding that the whole month of October would see Apple Stores becoming very busy.
Again a September 16 media event was mentioned, although what will be launched wasn’t mentioned by the source.
What’s making us a little dubious of the latest rumours is Apple’s track record. Take last year for example. The iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C were launched on Tuesday, September 10 with the phone duo going on sale on Friday September 20.
The iPhone 5 the year before it was launched on September 12 and made its way into UK stores on September 21.
So if Apple waited nearly a month to release the iPhone 6 in October, and on a Tuesday, of all days, we’d be very surprised, as it totally deviates from its usual phone release schedule.
Although, if rumours are correct and Apple has not only two iPhone 6 models up its sleeves, but also an iWatch, it might well wait a bit so that it has enough of all three devices in stock.
