iPad mini 2 release date delayed until December?

Ahead of next week’s expected unveiling, latest reports have suggested that the eagerly awaited iPad mini 2 release date could be delayed until December.

Although the iPad mini 2 is widely expected to enter the realms of reality next week alongside the long awaited iPad 5, industry analysts have suggested that low production rates could force Apple to hold off the in-store iPad mini 2 release date for another few weeks.

Yesterday Apple issued official invites to an October 22 launch event, with the company teasing “We still have a lot to cover.” While it is believed that the iPad mini follow-on will be formally unveiled next week, it is now not expected to go on sale later this month like previously expected.

According to Barclays Capital analyst Ben A. Reitzes, the iPad mini 2 release date will be hit by “major product constraints.” In a note to investors, the insider stated that he now expects the iPad mini 2 to be made available to consumers in early December, capitalising on the lucrative pre-Christmas shopping period.

With industry experts claiming that the iPad mini 2 will be twice as popular as the 9.7-inch iPad 5, Reitzes is not alone in predicting a distant arrival. Fellow analyst David Evanson of Canaccord Genuity has claimed that the iPad mini 2 is facing a “delayed launch”, adding this could inadvertently help generate more interest in the redesigned iPad 5.

Recent iPad mini 2 rumours and leaks have pointed to the second-generation tablet adding an improved Retina display. While this would enhance the tablet’s image quality, it is said it could for the Google Nexus 7 rival to be fatter and heavier as a larger battery would be required.

Further iPad mini specs tipped for inclusion include improved camera optics, a faster processor and the new iOS 7 operating system.
