Apple’s next full-sized tablet, the so-called iPad Air 2, has reportedly entered production with a new anti-reflection coating.
Apple’s suppliers are said to have commenced production of the next new iPad range, but there could be a bit of a hitch.
Bloomberg‘s sources claim that mass production of the new 9.7-inch iPad, which many are calling the iPad Air 2, is already underway. An official unveiling is predicted for some time towards the end of this quarter, or possibly the beginning of the next.
There are reported complications with the manufacturing of the iPad Air 2, but they appear to be something of a double-edged sword. On the one hand, they could point to limited initial numbers of Apple’s new flagship tablet. On the other hand, they reveal a potentially interesting new feature.
According to the report, Apple is applying a new anti-reflection coating to the iPad Air 2’s display, which will make it easier to read. However, this new coating is proving tricky to apply, which may lead to limited launch numbers of the tablet.
In addition, the report claims that Apple has just commenced production of the next iPad mini, which will probably be available by the end of the year.
As the report points out, this next iPad refresh is one of the most important for Apple in recent years. There are signs that its dominance of the tablet market is coming to an end, with sales of iPads slipping during the last quarter.
One thing’s for sure, with Apple also set to launch two new iPhone 6 models over the coming months, as well as the likelihood of an iWatch announcement, it’s going to be the company’s busiest period for quite some time.
