Dell Venue 8 7000 could be shipping end of November

Dell’s ambitious new high-end Android tablet, the Dell Venue 8 7000, could be set to launch in November.

According to Japanese blog Blogofmobile, Dell itself has revealed that the Dell Venue 8 7000 will hit the US at the end of next month.

While you might not think that news of a Dell tablet is anything to get excited about, this one has a number of intriguing features that have grabbed our attention.

When Dell unveiled the Venue 8 7000 last month, it labelled it “the world’s thinnest tablet.” As you may have noticed, Apple has since made the same claim for its 6.1mm-thick iPad Air 2, but the Dell Venue 8 7000 beats that by 0.1mm. It’s skinny alright.

Then there’s the Dell Venue 8 7000’s display – an 8.4-inch edge-to-edge OLED example with an enticing 2560 x 1600 QHD resolution. It’ll run on an Intel Z3500 quad-core CPU.

But we haven’t even touched upon the Dell Venue 8 7000’s most interesting feature yet. That would be its Intel RealSense Snapshot Depth Camera – or rather, three cameras. These are used to measure the 3D depth of images, which has a number of implications.

You could, for example, switch the focus between the foreground and background in post-processing. You could also potentially measure distances in pictures, which would be a very handy productivity tool.

We were very impressed with the Dell Venue 8 7000 when we went hands-on at IDF 2014, so we’ll be very interested to see if it does indeed launch before the end of the year (even if only in the US).
