Amazon UK now supports digital downloads for video games and software
Amazon UK has announced that digital downloads for PC and Mac software and video games are now available from the site.
Customers won’t have to wait for their discs to arrive in the post from Amazon UK, as the retail site now offers a digital download option for software and video game purchases.
As soon as the purchase is complete, Amazon UK customers can start downloading their chosen software or game directly to their PC or Mac.
The content is stored in the Amazon “Your Games & Software Library” for free, where product keys can be viewed and content can be re-downloaded.
For upcoming video games, the digital download service also works for pre-order titles. The game will be available to download on the release date, with the Amazon pre-order price guarantee still applicable.
Currently the selection is a little limited, but customers should expect that to be increased in the coming months as the service comes out of beta.
Within the digital games section, customers can already download Mass Effect 3, Far Cry 3, The Sims 3, Borderlands 2 and the new Tomb Raider reboot.
In-game content and free games like Stronghold Kingdoms are also included within the digital games service, within the Free-To-Play Store.
Products codes for online stores like Xbox Live, Origin and Microsoft Office.com can all be purchased from Amazon as well.
Software packages from Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office, Norton, Kaspersky, Sage and Rosetta Stone are offered from today on the Amazon software downloads section.
