Samsung could launch a Tizen OS Samsung Galaxy S5 variant later this year, according to a new report.
The original Samsung Galaxy S5 has only been out a couple of months, but that hasn’t stopped Samsung releasing two variants, the Galaxy S5 Active (US only) and the Samsung K Zoom, since then.
It looks like the Samsung Galaxy S5 mini will arrive next month too, but there’s now also a rumour there’s a Tizen OS version on the horizon.
Indian import tracking website Zauba has listed three versions of a Samsung Galaxy S5 Tizen Test phone, which have just arrived in India for testing.
This website, although relatively new on the radar, has established a pretty good record of outing new handsets before they are officially announced.
It isn’t clear whether the Tizen OS powered S5 is just for reference, but it seems odd that Samsung would send it off for testing if it’s just being used internally.
Samsung launched its first Tizen OS smartphone, the Samsung Z, earlier this month, with a 4.8-inch 720p HD AMOLED display running on a 2.3GHz quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM.
It would be interesting to see what the S5 would be like with Tizen OS rather than Android, which is slowed by Samsung’s heavy UI, especially if it keeps the same specs.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 was launched in April with a 5.1-inch full 1080p HD display, 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM and all powered by a 2800mAh battery.
It comes with 16GB or 32GB of internal storage, but that is helped by microSD support for cards up to 128GB.
Following in the footsteps of the iPhone 5S, the Galaxy S5 added a fingerprint sensor built into the home button for increased phone security. However, it went one further and put a heart rate sensor in the back of the phone, under the 16-megapixel rear camera.
