Sony Xperia Tablet Z release date delay explained by Sony

The Sony Xperia Tablet Z will now be released in May, but Sony denies that the release date is delayed, claiming its customers were instead misinformed.

Pre-order customers had expected to receive their Sony Xperia Tablet Z devices in the middle of April, but now the tablet won’t be arriving until the end of May.

Despite rumours that the waterproof 10.1-inch tablet had run into delays, Sony says the delayed Sony Xperia Tablet Z release date is due to human error not technical issues.

“Xperia Tablet Z became available for pre-order last week and we’re delighted by the incredible response,” said Sony in a statement. “During this process however, some Sony customers were misinformed of the expected delivery date to be 12th to 15 April.”

“This was in error and has never been the case; the units will be delivered as scheduled at the end of May. We apologise for any confusion caused – customers are being contacted individually by phone (or email if unavailable) to ensure the correct information reaches them.”

Sony Xperia Tablet Z Features
The stunning Sony Xperia Tablet Z features a 10.1-inch 1,920 x 1,200p display and is powered by a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core CPU with 2GB of RAM. It also plays host to the Sony Mobile Bravia Engine and will offer the latest Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS.

Easily the thinnest and lightest tablet currently available worldwide, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z weighs only 495 grams and measures just 6.9mm in thickness. This is even slimmer than the 7.2mm body of the iPad mini, which is currently the thinnest tablet on the market.

The Sony Xperia Tablet Z, like its Sony Xperia Z smartphone counterpart, is certifiably waterproof, capable of being immersed in water for up to half an hour down to depths of three feet.

Inbuilt with Sony’s low light technology, Exmor R CMOS sensor and Superior Auto modes, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z offers an 8-megapixel camera in the rear offering 1080p video shooting and a 2.2-megapixel front-facing snapper to boot.

A 6,000mAh battery, NFC connectivity or OneTouch as Sony calls it, S-Force Front Surround 3D audio and microSD card expandable memory complete the Sony Xperia Tablet Z’s impressive specs sheet.
