Mario Series Amiibo launching March 20

Nintendo has announced the Mario Series Amiibo will launch on March 20 with functionality in certain games.

A new series of Nintendo Amiibo featuring classic Mario universe characters will arrive on March 20 for compatibility with certain Wii U and New Nintendo 3DS titles.

The Mario Series includes Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Bowser and Toad – the majority of which are already available in the Super Smash Bros series.

Nintendo is mainly aiming the new Mario Series at the upcoming Mario Party 10 title for Wii U, which will be released on March 20 as well.

All six Amiibo will be playable characters in the new Mario Party game, where you’ll be able to use them as pawns in special board games.

As for the Toad Amiibo, which we’re particularly excited about, he’ll be able to unlock additional functionality in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker – released at the end of last year.

Amiibo compatibility for the game will be offered in a software update for the game, which will go live also on March 20.

All the Mario Series Amiibo will be available to purchase in stores, or you can grab Mario as part of a Mario Party 10 bundle that will go on sale March 20.

Nintendo will publish a special chart making note of which Amiibo is compatible with which game nearer to the March 20 release as well.
