Leaked Sony Xperia Z5 images offer close-up of claimed flagship

Sony’s next major smartphone release is seemingly right around the corner, so the usual pre-launch leak-athon is in full swing.

The latest on that front is a series of images purporting to show a dummy unit of the Xperia Z5.

The new images comes courtesy of French tech site Nowhereelse.fr, which is usually a reliable source for these sort of leaks.

So what do these snaps tell us? Not much unfortunately, as it seems Sony has, once again, opted for its ‘Omnibalance’ design approach that we’ve seen on every Xperia smartphone ever.

We did spot one notable omission – there’s a Micro USB port, which means no new USB-C connection this time around. That’s if this leak is genuine, mind.

The power button has also increased in size, which gels with rumours that we’ll finally see a fingerprint sensor land on an Xperia smartphone.

Sony is expected to unveil a trio of handsets in autumn 2015, two of which are tipped for launch at September’s IFA tradeshow in Berlin.

Both the Z5 and Z5 Compact are expected to land at the event, while a mysterious Xperia Z5+ is rumoured for an October/November launch.
