Is LG planning a new flagship smartphone for 2015?

LG G4

Everyone expects the LG G4 to face stiff competition this year, but it’s a surprise that the challenge might come from another LG phone.

A new report claims LG is planning ‘a second flagship smartphone’ for launch later this year, in an effort to boost sales.

According to FocusTaiwan, this ‘dual-flagship’ strategy will continue on from last year’s LG G3 (June) and LG G Pro 2 (March) launches.

It’s not clear whether we’ll be looking at the LG G5, an LG G Pro 3, or some new spin-off we’ve not yet heard of.

The report also claims that Eason Shao, LG’s Taiwanese mobile director, said: “The hardware specifications for the second phone have not yet been finalised.”

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard talk about LG launching a new flagship smartphone range this year.

Back in March, Cho Jun-hi, LG’s mobile business lead, said: “We are planning to release a product that stands above the G series.”

He added: “It will be launched during the second half of this year.”

The LG G4, meanwhile, is due to go on sale in the UK on May 28, landing with a Snapdragon 808 chip, 3GB of RAM, and a 16-megapixel camera.
