HTC promises M10 camera will compete with Galaxy S7's

HTC has claimed that the camera in its forthcoming HTC One M10 won't let the side down. In fact, it could be one of the best in the business.

As we've seen over the years, on facet of smartphone design HTC doesn't quite seem to have mastery over is the camera. Last year's HTC One M9 marked a solid improvement over previous efforts, but that wasn't really saying much.

In the grand scheme of things, HTC traditional doesn't operate in the same league as Samsung, LG, Apple, or Sony when it comes to smartphone photography.

That could be set to change with the HTC One M10. Speaking with Cnet recently, HTC CFO Chialin Chang made some confident noises about the new flagship phone's photographic chops.

"We can confidently say that HTC will have a very, very compelling camera experience," he said. "We're making this comment after we've seen what's going on in the market."

In other words, HTC has seen what the Samsung Galaxy S7 and LG G5 has to offer on the camera front, and it's confident that the M10 can stand up to them.

We heard a report earlier in the month that the HTC One M9 would have a 12-megapixel Sony IMX377 image sensor, which is the same strong component as can be found in the Nexus 6P. The same tip suggested that it would have OIS in addition.

We can't be certain yet, but HTC may well have cracked this smartphone camera lark. Finally.
