With last year’s Google Nexus 4 release having been plagued by continuing stock issues, the Google Nexus 5 failed to get off to a promising start, selling out in the US within an hour of launch. Now, the 32GB storage capacity black Google Nexus 5 has sold out in the UK, with a message on the Google Play Store stating: "We're out of stock. Please check back soon."
Officially unveiled and launched last Thursday, October 31, the 16GB SIM-free edition of the Google Nexus 5 sold out in the US Google Play Store less than 60 minutes after originally going on sale. The UK is faring little better, with Google Nexus 5 stock shortages seeing the same spec handset currently faced with a "2-3 weeks" shipping delay on British shores.
Although the black versions of the phone are currently facing severe stock shortages, both the 16GB and 32GB white editions of the Google Nexus 5 are currently listed alongside a November 8 shipping date.
Pairing a premium spec with a wallet-friendly price tag, the Google Nexus 5 specs sheet sees a 2.26GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor line up alongside 2GB of RAM and the option of 16GB or 32GB storage capacities.
While the 16GB costs just £299 SIM-free, the 32GB Google Nexus 5 price tag has been set at £339.
Further Google Nexus 5 features include an 8-megapixel rear-mounted camera with optical image stabilisation and a 1.3-megapixel secondary camera up front. The handset benefits from NFC and 4G connectivity options as well as a 2300mAh Lithium-Polymer battery. It is the first handset to run the new Android 4.4 KitKat operating system.
