Xbox One US sales outstripped PS4 in recent weeks
The Xbox One has had a good few weeks of sales, apparently trumping its great rival the PS4 in its home territory.
That’s what Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President of Devices and Studios Yusuf Mehdi is claiming, at least.
Writing on an Xbox Wire blog post, Mehdi revealed that the Xbox One console had been selling like the proverbial hotcakes in recent weeks. He claimed that the console will soon hit 10 million units sold to retailers, though it should be noted that this is very different to units actually sold to customers.
Perhaps more importantly as we hit the lucrative Christmas period, Mehdi claimed that the Xbox One had “led generation 8 console sales in the US for the past two weeks.”
In other words, the Xbox One has outsold the PS4 over the past fortnight.
This is down to a number of factors. First, and perhaps most significant, has been a “limited time offer of $50 off any Xbox One of your choice” deal that’s been run in the States.
The other significant factor has been that the Xbox One has seen some cracking exclusives launched in recent weeks, including Sunset Overdrive and Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Then there are those Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare bundles, with the game still seen by many as leading on Xbox One despite its cross platform nature.
Any way you cut it, now appears to be a good time to be an Xbox One gamer after a well publicised rocky start, and it bodes well for a stronger 2015.
