Withings teams up with Spotify for wake-up audio

It seems like every tech brand under the sun had something to announce at this year’s IFA technology tradeshow, and Withings was no exception.
The Internet of Things company had several announcements to make. The first major reveal was a partnership with Spotify to integrate the music streaming service into Withings’ Aura Sleep System.
As such, Aura is now the first connected Alarm Clock that works with Spotify Connect – that means you’ll have access to all 30 million tracks.
The idea is that you can select a playlist for the Aura to play when you wake up.
Withings has developed a number of playlists that the company has curated in-house to help ease you out of your 40 winks.
The company’s CEO, Cedric Hutchings, tells TrustedReviews that these playlists will be updated weekly.
For instance, certain playlists had their users getting out of bed in three minutes, while others took five minutes or more.
But Hutchings eventually hopes that Withings will expand Aura beyond Spotify, and include other streaming services like Apple Music and Tidal.
“We have a very good partnership with Spotify, but we have absolutely the willingness to expand it,” the Withings co-founder explains to us. “We think that it’s just this question of services, it adds value to us.”
Hutchings continues: “So as benefit for our users, and as awareness for Withings – for me, it’s a no brainer.”

The company also announced full support for Android across all of its connected devices.
Withings has typically been iOS-centric since the company first launched in 2008, although it’s dabbled with Android in the past, and has offered up beta versions of Android software throughout 2015.
Now, however, all of its smart devices are fully compatible with Android and iOS.
