Wilson’s smart American football helps you toss a wicked spiral
Sports manufacturer Wilson has announced the pricing and availability of its smart American football – the X Connected Football.
The $200 ball which begins shipping next month, is designed for wannabe quarterbacks and will track speed and distance of the throw.
It’ll also measure the all-important spiral efficiency and spiral rate, which have such a profound effect on the previous two metrics.
The chip and gyroscope embedded in the X Connected Football will even measure whether the ball has been caught or dropped and the non-chargeable chip will last for a whopping 200,000 throws.
Naturally, it’s also equipped with Bluetooth so all of the stats are communicated back to a mobile app, which also features mini-games simulating in-game situations

A little closer to home, Adidas also has the miCoach Smart Ball for proper football which tells players how hard they’ve struck the ball, while also measuring spin, impact zones and flight trajectories.
