Sony Xperia Z2 images possibly leaked

A picture of a brand new Sony smartphone has hit the web, fitting the description of the Sony Xperia Z2.

Sony is rumoured to be launching its follow-up to its Sony Xperia Z1 flagship Android phone at MWC 2014, which kicks off on February 24. If that proves to be the case, now would be about the right time for the phone code-named Sirius to rear its head (unofficially, of course).

Funnily enough, over the weekend, a selection of images of a mysterious new Sony phone appeared on the XDA Developers forum. The device is referred to as the “New Xperia D6503,” but it seems to fit the bill for the Sony Xperia Z2.

Its design isn’t a million miles away from the Z1, but it does appear to have thinner side bezels. This could reflect the rumoured bump up in screen size, from the Z1’s 5-inch display to a reported 5.2-inch example.

Other than this, the general positioning of the Sony D6503’s controls and features – meaning the power and volume buttons, the dedicated camera control, the magnetic pins, the SIM tray and the microSD slot – appear similar to the Z1.

In fact, the only differences seems to be the positioning of the lanyard and the design of the speaker (it’s made of three drilled holes rather than a fine mesh).

The Sony Xperia Z2 is expected to retain the Z1’s 20.7-megapixel camera, though you can probably expect some improvements unrelated to megapixel count. It’ll also more than likely be water and dust resistant, as is the Sony smartphone way.
