Sky+ remote control added to Android app
The Sky+ Android app has been updated to include the Sky+ remote control function, allowing Android users to control their Sky+ TV services direct from their Android device.
Sky+ TV customers who connect their Sky+ box to their home Wi-Fi can now use their Android devices to change channels, fast forward and rewind all through a selection of swipe-based gestures. Tap to play and pause TV functionality also features.
The new Sky+ 3.0.0 update for the Google Play store allows users to manage their Sky Planner via the Sky+ app. Users can add and delete recordings stored on their Sky+ box, book recordings for individual programmes or series and set reminders without interrupting the programme their viewing on TV.
Originally launched in 2009, this latest update offers new features to an already successful app. Across all app stores, the Sky+ app has been downloaded more than 5 million times and still ranks in the top 20 entertainment apps.
Additional features offered by the Sky+ app include browsing the Sky TV Guide for the week ahead and viewing personalised programme recommendations based on a user’s viewing history. Android Sky+ app users can also manage any programme recording clashes and utilise the Remote Record feature when a user has forgotten to record a show after they’ve left the house.
Sky has said that On Demand listings on the Sky+ app will be added to the Android platform later this year.
Currently available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, the Sky+ App can be downloaded for free on devices such as the Apple iPad Mini, Google Nexus 7 and Samsung Galaxy S3.
