Samsung to release software fix for Galaxy S8 red-tinted screen issue
Earlier this week, reports began to emerge of issues with Samsung’s new Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, with early adopters in Korea complaining of a red-tinted screen.
Samsung acknowledged the problem, saying it’s a natural part of the ‘adoptive display’, and advising users to go to the phone’s settings menu to change the display settings and banish the red tint.
But now it seems the company is taking things more seriously, as it will be releasing an actual software update to address the problem.

Previously, in a statement given to ZDnet, the company said: “The Galaxy S8 was built with an adaptive display that optimizes the color range, saturation, and sharpness depending on the environment.
“If needed, users can manually adjust the color range of the display to change the appearance of white tones, through ‘Settings > Display > Screen Mode > Color balance’.”
Now, a Samsung spokesperson told The Korea Herald (via): “Because there are some complaints about the red-tinted screens, we decided to upgrade the software next week for all Galaxy S8 clients.”
As the phone is set to ship in the west starting today, with the UK set to get the phone on April 28, it’s likely the update will roll out to all regions.
It’s unclear how many of the reports of red tint issues concern the Galaxy S8 and how many refer to the larger S8+ but it seems Samsung will be releasing the update for both phones.
After some users claimed changing the phone’s display settings did not solve the problem, The Korea Herald reported that Samsung told customers to seek an exchange at a service centre.
The company reportedly said: “It is not a quality problem and it can be adjusted with the phone itself. If the color still appears to be reddish, customers can change it at the service center.”
Sammy will be looking to take care of the problem as soon as possible, following last year’s Note 7 overheating debacle, and seems to be looking to get the software update out before the end of the month. Stay tuned for more.
