Samsung has announced the opening of a brand new office in Silicon Valley, the home of Apple, Google, and Facebook.
Of course, Samsung has had an office in the area since 1983, but not at this scale.
The 1.1-million-square-foot campus will combine various research labs for the company’s semiconductor, LED, and display businesses. It will also be the new home for a number of support staff, as well as sales and marketing teams.
To that end, the new campus will house an initial 700 members of staff, with the potential to host up to 2,000. Samsung CEO Oh-Hyun Kwon says that the new office would lay the groundwork for “a more aggressive pace of growth over the next several decades.”
Samsung will be eager to capitalise on some of the creative spirit flowing through the Valley after a difficult year in which its golden goose – the smartphone business – stopped producing to previous levels.

While the Samsung Galaxy S6 was seen as a bold and necessary progression for the company in many ways, it failed to capture the imaginations of an Apple-obsessed public. At least, not to the desired degree.
Of course, the company’s chip-making business remains in rude health, and with the new campus labelled by Samsung as its “new headquarters for U.S. semiconductor operations,” it looks set to continue propping up the company’s profits.
