Rocket League developer Psyonix Studios stands on the precipice of history. It’s set to become the first game playable across the Xbox Live and PSN online platforms.
The makers of the cult car-racing-cum-football hit were the first to answer the call for Microsoft’s proposed cross-network compatibility, which would erase traditional boundaries that have often prevented friends playing alongside each other.
In an interview with GameSpot this week, Psyonix says it has the technology all figured out and is just waiting for the political stars to align before opening it up to gamers.
“
“Right now, excitement is the best way to put it. We just want to get in there and make it happen. Elation is probably another word I would use.”
With Microsoft pushing the idea strongly and Sony claiming it is “willing to have the conversation“, it appears the latter’s sign-off is all that’s holding up the process.
Dunham added: “The only thing we have to do now is to find out where we stand politically with everyone, and then it’s full steam ahead to finish the solution that we’ve already started.”

A basketball-themed mode has been teased for next month. Perhaps if Sony overcomes the jitters then we’ll be ringing it in with Xbox One vs PS4 dunk contests?
