Great news retro gaming fans as a turbo charged version of Pac-Man is coming to the Nintendo Switch next year.
Bandai Namco revealed Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 Plus will land on the Switch in 2018, bringing a fresh port of the game which came to the likes of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in 2016, only with a new multiplayer mode tailored for the Switch.
Offering a co-op mode, multiplayer Pac-Man on the Switch involves players taking a Joy Con controller each and piloting a Pac-Man around a ghost-filled maze while gobbling up dots.
Players will need to work together to clean the maze of dots and use power ups to consume pursuing ghosts, in some cases only being able to do so if they tackle a line of ghosts from each side, making co-operation a must. We can predict this will lead to some frenetic Switch living room gaming next year.
The ‘Plus’ version of Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 will retain the 2016 game’s speedy navigation through the labyrinthine neon coloured mazes, essentially fusing retro gaming with a dollop of modern visuals and controls.
Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 Plus will land on the Switch February 22, in time for Spring and a potentially healthy line-up of Switch games for 2018.
Despite initial scepticism when the Switch launched this year Nintendo has shifted millions upon millions of its hybrid console, and is seeing its game portfolio extend beyond its classic Mario and Zelda franchises; the remake of Doom for example has made its way on to the Switch, demonstrating how a major developer and publisher like Bethesda sees a healthy future for the Switch.
