Nokia Lumia tablet to be unveiled next month?

A Nokia Lumia tablet will be officially unveiled next month at a dedicated launch event in New York City, sources close to the matter have claimed.

Citing unnamed “sources familiar with the plan,” Reuters has reported that a Nokia Lumia tablet will be officially launched in a matter of weeks as part of a new product line-up from the Finnish manufacturer. The new product ranges are seemingly an effort to regain lost ground and narrow the gap to current market leaders Samsung.

With the heavily rumoured Nokia Lumia tablet expected to be unveiled alongside a new, high-end flagship phone, the latest reports have stated that “the sources would not elaborate on details such as specifications and price but said the new models will include a phablet.”

With the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and LG G2 making 5-inch phones the norm, a number of companies are now moving into larger ‘phablet’ handsets. Currently dominating the market with the Note 2, Samsung is widely expected to unveiled the follow-on Samsung Galaxy Note 3 at IFA on September 4.

“This is a risky bet, as high-end smartphones are slowing overall, competition is intense, and Windows has had limited traction in the high end,” Bernstein Research analyst Pierre Ferragu said of Nokia’s potential move into the phablet scene.

Last week claimed images of the Nokia Lumia tablet hit the web, showing the iPad rival as a 10.1-inch Windows RT powered device with a bright red polycarbonate body.

Further Nokia Lumia tablet leaks have pointed to the device hosting an impressive spec with a 2.15GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor seemingly set to run the show alongside a 10.1-inch 1080p Full HD display.
