Nintendo has apologised for the ongoing Amiibo shortages, and has vowed to ramp up production.
There have been severe shortages of certain popular varieties of Nintendo’s NFC-equipped models, leading to inflated prices from many third party retailers.
“We appreciate the enthusiasm that our fans continue to show toward amiibo. Sales for the product have exceeded our expectations. We understand how frustrating it can be at times if consumers are unable to find certain figures, and we apologize for that,” reads a new statement over on Nintendo’s Facebook page.

Aside from ramping up its production efforts, Nintendo also claims that it is looking to reissue some discontinued lines.

In addition, “Nintendo plans to make it easier for consumers to know when new amiibo are on the way, through Nintendo press announcements, timely updates on our social media channels and working closely with retailers.”
Nintendo will also be extending the functionality of these Amiibo, with Animal Crossing Amiibo cards set to be made available some time this year. The company also highlights the free Amiibo Tap: Nintendo’s Greatest Bits app for Wii U, which combines with the figurines to offer three minute playable demos of classic Nintendo games.
