Nexus 5X performance improvements rolling out now

Google has confirmed that it’s rolling out performance improvements for the Nexus 5X.

We found Google’s latest mid-range Android smartphone to be a capable device at launch, but there have been numerous reports of glitches and performance issues.

While its Snapdragon 808 CPU and 2GB of RAM are far from cutting-edge components, they should be more than adequate to run the stock Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS fluidly. Those reported issues must have been software-related.

Sure enough, after new Nexus 5X-specific factory images were posted to the Android developers site, Google took to Reddit to clarify matters.

Yesterday evening, a Nexus community manager wrote that “an OTA update will begin rolling out today for the Nexus 5X.” This will include “a number of bug fixes that will improve overall stability, connectivity and performance on the Nexus 5X.”

In addition, the new software will include the March security update.

Further down the Reddit discussion, the Google spokesperson elaborates on some of the problems that will be fixed here. Besides general slow and sluggish performance issues, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi improvements, and network-specific bug fixes, the update will address the “DND next alarm disappearing issue”.

Whether the handset’s slow and unstable camera will be fixed in this update is not yet known.
