LG Smart TVs add Napster music streaming
Owners of LG Smart TVs will now be able to access over 17 million tracks and more through Napster’s music-streaming service as the two company’s strike a deal.
Available for current LG Smart TVs, Napster’s new Smart TV app offers pre-programmed radio channels, new music releases, Napster’s own charts and recommendations as well as ‘artist radio’, which functions in a similar fashion to the iTunes Genius that creates playlists matching the listener’s individual music taste.
Users can also listen to playlists created by other subscribers, or mark their favourite artists, albums and saved tracks via the ‘My Music’ section. The app also offers tracks from renowned artists that are exclusive to Napster.
“We are extremely proud of our award-winning Smart TV platform and the volume and quality of apps that we can offer,” Darren Petersen, Senior Content and Services Manager at LG UK said. “We are delighted to add Napster to our already impressive portfolio, allowing customers to enjoy its varied catalogue of music.”
LG’s Smart TVs already have a very varied range of apps available to its users, including film-on-demand services such as Acetrax Movies, LoveFilm and Netflix, and entertainment apps such as Eurosport, BBC iPlayer and YouTube.
“As the living room is the natural hub of the home, we are pleased that our service is now able to offer the music customers enjoy, along the TV shows, sporting events, games and movies that they are experiencing already,” Petersen added.
The free Napster Smart TV app is available from the Premium Apps card on 2012 LG Smart TVs. Listeners can activate existing Napster accounts for use on their TVs, or register as new users for a free 30 day trial.
